This has been helped by the fact that the rise in data breaches and cyber attacks in the digital era has
necessitated the need to protect the privacy and integrity of data. The increase in complexities of data
security eludes the traditional security measures and, therefore, alternative measures are being
considered. A decentralized and immutable structure of blockchain technology has become one of the
possible solutions to the safe keeping and integrity of sensitive data and its integrity. In this paper, the
authors discuss the possibility of blockchain technology to serve as a data privacy and integrity booster,
compare the cryptographic interactions of this technology, its use in diverse areas, and the issues to
impede its implementation, especially regarding scalability and energy consumption. The paper
provides a literature review, addresses the methodology that is used in blockchain studies, and
determines advantages and limitations of blockchain as a solution to the problem of data security. In
these results, it is seen that blockchain can provide a very powerful structure of data protection but the
environmental issues and scalability problems are still essential barriers to using blockchain on a large
scale. In conclusion, this paper suggests that future studies should be done so far as enhancing the
effectiveness which blockchain may have coupled with other types of technologies.
